The Emanuel School in Cologne is a new building that is not only architecturally impressive, but also realises a central theme in an outstanding way: Acoustics.

The school, designed by the renowned firm "Drei Architekten", fulfils all contemporary requirements. It was built sustainably and supports the generation of renewable energy with two photovoltaic systems. The new building has a variety of acoustic measures to ensure that pupils can learn in a quiet and pleasant environment. These include sound-absorbing ceilings and walls, as well as acoustically optimised furniture.

Poor acoustics in schools are a widespread problem.
Noise and reverberation can not only impair pupils' concentration and learning behaviour, but can also lead to health problems such as stress and headaches. The new Emanuel School building shows that it is possible to incorporate optimum room sound into a contemporary architectural concept. Functionality and design go hand in hand here. The company akustikplus supplied the appropriate acoustic solutions for the project. Prefabricated acoustic panels with a 16/3 slot pattern are mainly used in the central parts of the school, such as the assembly hall, canteen and stairwells.

The sound-absorbing wall panelling lends warmth and quality to the interior spaces and serves as a contrast to the smooth, light-coloured surfaces
